The Challenge

MedSupply Partners was running Magento 2.4.8 serving four major institutional buyers — VCU, Prendio, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Penn State. The platform had 24,500 products, manual order processing, no native punchout integration, and rising infrastructure costs.

The Migration

We executed the migration in 9 weeks:

  • Week 1-2: Discovery, data audit, and BigCommerce B2B store setup
  • Week 3-4: Product data ETL — 9,585 products loaded via CSV with custom Python scripts
  • Week 5-6: Price lists (20,427 records across 4 buyer groups), categories (107 created), and customer groups
  • Week 7-8: Custom punchout integration built directly into our tenant portal — no TradeCentric middleware
  • Week 9: UAT, 301 redirects, DNS cutover, and go-live

The Punchout Innovation

Instead of paying $50-100/month per connection for TradeCentric or Punchout2Go middleware, we built punchout directly into our platform. The tenant portal handles cXML parsing, BigCommerce SSO, cart transfer, and order injection. Four institutional connections are live and processing orders.

Results

  • 19,508 products cataloged (9,585 loaded to BigCommerce)
  • 20,427 price list records across 4 institutional buyers
  • 3,840 products with automated hazard surcharge modifiers
  • $600-1,200/year in middleware fees eliminated
  • Zero data loss during migration
